All is now set for the commissioning of the 4.859km Ekosodin road project in Ovia North East LGA of Edo State constructed by Edo State Oil and Gas Producing Areas Development Commission (EDSOGPADEC), which includes Main Ekosodin road, Newton road, Ehigeagba street, Osanidowonyi street, Boundary street and Edo street.
This statement was made by the Commission’s Chairman, Pastor Kennedy Osifo on an inspection tour where he inspected the Ekosodin roads and adjoining streets under construction and expressed satisfaction on the successful completion of the road by the contractor. Furthermore, he stated that what has been done by EDSOGPADEC is attributed to the developmental drive of His Excellency, Mr. Godwin Nogheghase Obaseki’s whose administration is desirous of bringing dividends of democracy to all economic sectors of the state to align with the Make Edo Great Again (MEGA) Agenda.
The Commissioner representing EDSOGPADEC on the Board of the Commission, Mrs. Omosede Obamwonyi stated that the road construction work which was awarded on 5th May, 2020 was as a result of Mr. Governor’s desire to bring about relief to the residents of the area who has been suffering undue hardship due to the bad shape of the road, which made the road a death trap as cultist and various criminals took advantage of the road condition to perpetrate crimes of various degree. She further stated that the completion of the main Ekosodin road and adjoining streets is the phase one and that the phase two Ekosodin road project which is the entire University of Benin internal roads, has also been approved by Mr. Governor and currently under construction.
A motorist who expressed shock on seeing the recent development could not hid his feelings, he spoke with so much joy in his heart cause of the deplorable and devastating condition of the road before it was constructed, stressing that motorist using the road had to bear the pain of taking their cars to the mechanic on daily basis which cost them a lot. He therefore appreciated Gov. Godwin Obaseki for bringing a lasting solution to Ekosodin road and environs stating that they can now go about their businesses without fear of hoodlums.
Residents of the community which includes; tricycle riders, students, pedestrians and motorist were filled with joy and expressed their feelings and excitement on the current shape of the road.
They commended EDSOGPADEC and GOV. Godwin Obaseki for coming to their rescue, stressing that the road was in a terrible condition and residents had to leave the environment because the roads deteriorated and became impassable.
